VALE - Bob Towler

21 Mar 2023 by Neil Brindley

It is with great sadness that the Greensborough Football Club informs you of the passing of Bob Towler.

Bob passed away peacefully at his home in Port Fairy, on Sunday 19th March, aged 89.

A local Boro boy, who started in juniors, Bob went on to play 168 senior games for Greensborough from 1952 until 1960.

He was an automatic inclusion in the legendary premiership teams of 1952, 1955, 1958 & 1960.
He could, and did, play all over the field, and was frequently called on to blanket the opposition’s most difficult player.

From 1952 until 1960, Bob was a vital player in seven (7) grand finals and each of those four (4) premierships.

Off the field, he served the Club as Assistant Secretary in 1952 & 1953, and on the committee in 1961 & 1962.

In 2022, in a fitting tribute, Bob was inducted into the Greensborough Football Club Hall of Fame.

The funeral for Bob will be held on Friday 24th March at St. Andrew’s presbyterian church, 31 Willam St., Port Fairy @ 12 noon
